What information do we collect?

We collect information from you when you register on our site.  You are not required to register to use the basic functions of the site, but you can be of great assistance to our editors and out community of users if you do.

When registering on our site, you are asked to enter a user name, e-mail address, age range, gendercountry , postal code, and occupational data. You can use any user name you wish.  Most of us use our real name, but you can use a “handle” of any other “name” that is not already used by someone else.  Other than the user name and the e-mail address, the rest of the information is optional, but we urge you to please provide the information.  Also, in this version of our website, we have several valauble new features and benefits to our users, but several can technically only be provided to users who register.  Click Here To See The User Advantages to Registration.

Why we collect information other than the user name and e-mail address?

In our Beta website, we had tens of thousands of users and downloaded over 300 million quotations.  Yet we have no clue about who received those quotes.  Were they politicians, their staffs, journalists, educators, or students?  We have no idea.  They could have been mostly children doing term papers, or all adults.  Perhaps most were Americans, but we really do not know.  So when we made the final design for the website were made a number of guesses.  If we knew something about our user community, we can provide a better service.  Further, the reason we can make Eigen\'s Political & Historical Quotations available at no charge to the public is that we have recieved many generous donations.  We are a tax exempt, IRS approved 501 c3 foundation.  However our donors want to know who we are assisting, where they are, etc.  These are the only purposes for collecting this data.

In our beta version, we had no name, e-mail, or sign in procedure.  Users just searched the site.  You can still do that, but we hope that you will register and help us out.  We have added additional features which will have benefit for you, but we have to be able to send you the material you wish. And we need to have some identification if you are to post information on the website.  There are a few people in cyberspace who try and introduce pornography, slander or simple post material that does not comport with our norms and rules.  We have to have some way of cutting them off, and we can do so if there are accounts.

What Information Can Others See

If you register, other users can only see your user name, country, and occupation.  Your age, gender and e-mail are never disclosed to others.  For registrants, there is an optional PRIVATE E-mail system with the site which allows you to communicate with other users about comments, issues and other substance, without either of you ever seeing the other\'s email address.  You have the choice of receiving private e-mail or not.

What do we use your information for?

Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:

  • To personalize your experience by providing prefereances, features and benefits that technically cannot be provided without registration.
