Yes, we are trying non-intrusive advertising to help defray the cost of distributing Eigen's Political and Historical Quotations to the public free of charge. This has become a much more expensive activity than our foundation originally planned. The cause has been the overwhelming response and utilization which has been over 10 times our original estimates. In the first 6 months of our Beta Test period, people have downloaded over 40 million quotations. The bandwidth alone has exceeded our projections by several fold. There is much more help and many questions which so far, we have answered each and all. Our foundation's cost for the first 6 month's of Beta Testing has exceeded $100,000.

To try to defray some of the costs, we have worked with Google to place non-obtrusive ads on many of the pages. There are no pop-ups, no spyware, or any other intrusive techniques used. The ads are clearly labeled and in a distinct area. The only way you will see the advertised information is if you CHOOSE to click on the ad.

The largest proportion of our donations come in the form of common stock or other securities where there are large paper profits. Donations of the stock allows the donor to deduct the current fair market price of the stock at the time of the donation and yet pay no tax on the capital gain. Such donations are gratefully received.
